Summer Program Rundown - August 14

The following is a recap of Windsor CSD summer programming for August 14:

Knight Lights STEM students became aeronautical engineers today, building rockets made out of construction paper and old film containers to create an Alka Seltzer-fueled rocket. There are three launches scheduled for tomorrow: 9:15am, 9:55am and 11:25am.

“They need to experiment with different variables: cold or warm water, how will temperature affect the altitude. Also, the amount of Alka Seltzer. A lot of kids think the more Alka Seltzer, the greater the altitude. Well, …..” said STEM teacher Eileen Mulchahy.

Literacy students took an online quiz to enhance their comprehension of Because of Winn-Dixie. They also worked on props for a reader’s theater based on the book scheduled tomorrow.

The two-week Fine Arts camp has hit the stretch drive in anticipation of its final day Thursday. Students advanced their painting, sculpture, mosaic and mixed media projects. Mixed media students used oil pastels, watercolors and collages to make a cat or dog.

Improv students played the game, “Dinner Guest”. The guests acted like a character, but didn’t say who they were. The party host had to guess.

“We had kids be a bunch of different characters. We had Disney characters, Marvel characters. It was a blast,” said teacher Robert Morano. “It really forced them to focus on their acting skills.”

Music Tech students have all finished their first composition. They are now working on their second or third, including students who have created Claymation videos recording their soundtracks. Drums, ukulele, African drums, and chorus also continued. Students from most of the Fine Arts camps will come together Thursday for a combined performance.
