Coin Carnival at Bell Elementary

The fun multiplied as the loose change added up at Bell Elementary’s Coin Carnival. Students and their families stopped at games like Ring Toss, Knock ‘Em Down and Lollipop Surprise in an event to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

“This seems like the biggest turnout in the three years we’ve done it. It’s great to see the Student Council step up with the leadership role, speaking maturely to the public and helping the younger students run the games,” said Student Council faculty advisor Meghan Leonard.

“It’s amazing. Student Council is working very hard. To see the crowd is amazing,” said Bell Elementary Student Council president Ryan Kristof.

The carnival is part of Student Council’s Pennies for Patients campaign to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The goal is to raise $1,200.

The Pennies for Patients campaign will run through March 29, when Student Council will announce how much it has raised at a school assembly. The carnival is the only extra-curricular fundraiser. All others are during the school day. This week is Coin week, when students can bring in a different coin each day. The last week in March will be Spirit Week where students can wear pajamas to school or dress as a superhero.

Student Council has spelled out, “CANCER” on the hallway of Bell Elementary. For each $200 it raises it will take a letter off of the wall – all in an effort to wipe out cancer. That’s not all. If the school reaches its goal Kristof will either have to kiss a goat, get a pie in the face or have a slime balloon dropped on his head.

“Having to kiss a goat would be interesting,” said Kristoff.
