Summer Camp Rundown - July 18

Knight Lights continued its programs centered around science, technology, engineering & math (STEM), literacy, fine arts and physical fitness. Some campers made rain sticks – tubes with nails and rice inside of them that sound like rainfall when someone shakes them.

Students Sonila Badar and Albert Park from the University of Toronto had younger campers build catapults out of popsicle sticks and rubber bands. The college students are visiting Binghamton University and used the build to teach a lesson about potential energy, kinetic energy and forces such as gravity.

Golf campers continued to work in the following stations: putting, chipping and driving. However, tomorrow’s final day of camp will feature play on the course.

“Everyone is going to play tomorrow on the course,” said golf coach Bruce Bedford. “I’ve seen a lot of enthusiasm and engagement. We’ve been having a lot of fun.”

Football campers went through personal technique instruction on the following areas: footwork, passing/catching, tackling, punting and blocking. They also finished the day with 7-on-7 games.

“The camp is going very well. They’re all receptive to what we’re selling them. They’re getting the terminology that we want to level up from middle school to modified to JV to varsity,” said football coach Tim Hogan.

Windsor Strong Academy campers took part in an egg drop to work on team-building and critical-thinking skills. First-year students continued to study what makes a community strong. Second-year students continued to work on a board game called, “Success”. The purpose of the game is to show the many paths to success.

All students began to make a “You matter” poster. The poster will be filled with the thoughts of other campers as Windsor Strong continues.

“We’ve asked them to share positive thoughts about someone, something they haven’t shared before and something they never want that person to change about themselves. At the end of the camp, each student will take that poster home,” said teacher Stefanie Olbrys.
