Bee-autiful Art

The Discovery Center will display a special art project created by C.R. Weeks students as they explored the world of beekeeping.
5th graders have worked with the school’s art teacher, Sarah Edwards, and counselor, Nina Muto, to create a hive sculpture made from hexagonal shapes each student created to show their role in their family, school, and community.

This after local beekeepers made a pair of visits to the students. The beekeepers explained that anyone can be a beekeeper and taught students the roles bees have within their hive community. On the second visit, the beekeepers set up three stations up for students to taste different flavors of honey, see different kinds of equipment beekeepers use, and examine an educational hive and create a drawing based on a fact they learned.

The beekeepers, Mrs. Muto, and Mrs. Edwards will present this project at the Roberson Museum on Saturday, November 18th from 10AM-noon. Families are welcome to attend.

The Discovery Center will exhibit the classes’ sculpture during in First Friday in March.
