Holiday Helpers

Windsor Central Middle School 7th graders are helping to make Christmas Day a little brighter for thousands of people in need.
Windsor’s entire 7th-grade class went to the American Legion on Main Street in Binghamton to help organizers pack dinners for delivery during the Bandera Family Christmas dinner.

The event will serve 4,500 dinners at The American Legion in Binghamton, The American Legion in Norwich, and St. Ambrose Church in Endicott, along with buffet lines and community gatherings for seniors and others at various sites.

“The students learn how to volunteer and give back to the community while getting into the spirit of the Holidays,” said 7th grade science teacher Stephen Mazikewich. “The feedback that we got is that the kids had a really good time and enjoyed doing it. The time went by really quickly.”

This is the second consecutive year Windsor’s entire 7th grade class volunteered to help prepare for the event. Before COVID, the 7th grade class’ participation in the Bandera Family Christmas dinner was an annual event.

“I was glad we could help the community. It was really fun and a good opportunity,” said Windsor 7th grader Layla Blodgett.

“I just really liked it. It was nice to help people who need it. It felt good to help people,” said Windsor 7th grader Lucas Sansom.
