WCHS students in the school’s agriculture program have helped create Windsor’s first chapter of the Future Farmers of America in over 50 years. They are doing their part to make sure there is never that long of a gap again.

FFA students visited Mrs. Symons’ classroom at Palmer Elementary to educate her students about agriculture and share some treats from the farm as well. The students heard a reading of the book, On the Farm, and enjoyed cheese curds and maple cream.

 

 

“I wish they had this kind of thing when I was in 2nd grade. It’s really cool,” said WCHS Ag student Lexie Harris.

The FFA students visited Palmer Thursday and will stop at Bell Elementary on Friday morning to help share their Ag experience with the younger students. Cornell Cooperative Extension made a similar stop at Weeks Elementary earlier this week, which is National Agriculture Literacy Week.

 

 

“There’s a real push to teach kids where their food comes from,” said Ag teacher Alexis Halstead. 

“I hope they get into Ag and farming. It’s a big part of the community and they should know more about it,” said WCHS Ag student Casey Hull. 

“I hope they join FFA when they get older. Hopefully, there will be more people in it after we leave,” said Harris. 

The FFA students will go to the organization’s State Convention at the On Center in Syracuse in May. There, they can take part in tours, workshops, and community service projects centered around agriculture.
