Varsity Awards Night

Windsor Central High School athletic program marked the end of the 2020-21 school year with its Varsity Awards Night. Among those honored included the ten student-athletes who will compete in college, the girls bowling and boys cross country teams, who each went undefeated in the regular season, and the STAC East champion boys swimming and diving team.

Among the honorees were four student-athletes who won the Section IV Character Counts Award: juniors Grace Beattie and Gabe Monroe, and seniors Hanna Hagerman and Dylan Cappello. WCHS coaches selected the quartet for displaying positive character.

WCHS also earned distinction as a NYSPHSAA Scholar Athlete School of Excellence. For a school to achieve this, 75 percent of its varsity teams need to qualify for the NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete Team Award during the school year.

"It is an honor to be named a NYSPHSAA Scholar Athlete School of Excellence.  This award is indicative of the hard work our students, teachers, coaches, and parents put forth towards academics, as well as athletics,” said WCHS Associate Principal and Athletic Coordinator Chris Klumpp.

Other award winners from the evening include the following:

The Carissa Acquisto Award: Allison Radicchi.
The Andrew Wilson Donahue Memorial Scholarship: Hanna Hagerman.
John W. Benson Memorial Scholarship: Kollin VanZandt and Sofia Peret.
Black and Gold Award: Hanna Hagerman and Kobe Dela Cruz.
The Doug Bowman Wrestling Award: James Hoover.
The Bush Memorial Wrestling Award: Troy Hayes.
