A Special Place

Robert Villecco found the gift of imagination in a corner of the C.R. Weeks Elementary library over 45 years ago. Now, thanks to his creativity, he’s making it easier for youngsters to do the same for years to come.

Villecco, now a maintenance worker for the Windsor Central School District, built chairs and a table to put in that corner of the Weeks library. He also hand-painted a scene from Snow White on the table, and a character from the fairy tale on each chair.
“I’ve built numerous tables over the years. I just thought, it’s still the same little nook when I was in school here for the little kids to read, so I thought let’s put a table where I used to read. I think they’ll enjoy it,” said Villecco.

Members of Weeks Student Council as well as school principal Kristen Beriman accepted the donation on behalf of the school.

“It’s really beautiful. As a kid, Snow White was my favorite princess, so I really like it. Little kids will like it because of how beautiful it is. It is really creative. The chairs are painted, too,” said Coraline Simon, president of Weeks Student Council.

“I started here in first grade. That’s where I first started reading the books. It’s where the little kids books were,” said Villecco. “I want them to let their imagination run wild when they see the picture on the table, and open up the books.”

Villecco still remembers his favorite book from his time at Weeks.

“Where the Wild Things Are,” said Villecco.

Now, students at Weeks will have a vibrant space to find their own favorite works.

“This is a piece of art,” Weeks Student Council member Jaxson Scarinzi.

“This is going to be a favorite spot, for sure,” said Weeks principal Kristen Beriman.

“It was mine,” said Villecco.
