Bell's "Pennies for Patients" Raises $1,800+

Floyd L. Bell Elementary School’s Pennies for Patients campaign raised $1,853.48 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, surpassing its initial $1,000 goal.
Members of the school’s Student Council announced the final tally at an assembly on May 25. The event culminated the 14-day drive organized by Student Council, which included coin week, game week, spirit week, the wishing well, coin war, guessing games, and an Animal Adventure raffle.

During Coin Week, students brought a different coin each day of the week to donate. The themes for Spirit Week were Rainbow Day on Monday, Jersey Day on Tuesday, Tie Dye Day on Wednesday, and Black and Gold Day today on Thursday. Game Week allowed students to take a guess at the estimation jar or make a wish at the wishing well for a chance to win a prize. Students made over 200 wishes at the wishing well.

Because the school far exceeded its fundraising goal, student council officers Abby Birtch, Isaac Fisher, Jake Karlson, and Kayla Youngs will spend time in the dunk tank at the Bell Buddy Field Day on June 16th. Also spending time in the tank will be teachers Mrs. Fisher, Mr. Karlson, and Mrs. Youngs.

Inspired by a former Bell student who suffered from childhood leukemia, participating in the fundraising campaign has become a yearly tradition at Bell School, which, over the course of the past 16 years, has raised around $28,000.
