Angelino Guest Reader at Bell

Bell Elementary 2nd graders had a special guest during their Ag in the Classroom lesson on Strawberries. New York State Assemblyman Joeseph Angelino was a guest reader of the book, I Love Strawberries!, by Shannon Anderson.
“I have a huge (legislative) district which includes over 40 school districts. I really enjoy getting out and seeing all of the schools. Participating in reading and getting to deal with the students is really icing on the cake,” said Angelino (R-121st District).

Angelino’s visit was part of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County’s Ag in the Classroom program’s latest visit.

“We teach the students how strawberries are the first fruit that grows in the spring, how it has its seeds on the outside, how there are different varieties, and how many are grown in New York State,” said Ag in the Classroom educator Nicki Walker.

Students enjoyed strawberry shortcake during the lesson as well.

“It’s important that we find different ways to educate children about the importance of agriculture and connect them back to where their food comes from so they make healthy choices as they get older,” said Beth Roberts, Executive Director of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County.

So, does Assemblyman Angelino actually love strawberries?

“Who doesn’t?” said Angelino.
