First-Hand Look

Members of the Stop DWI Broome County office and Community Engagement Officers from the Broome County Sheriff’s Department came to Windsor Central High School Tuesday to give students a first-hand experience of the dangers of driving intoxicated.
They brought “drunk goggles” which simulated the effects of various stages of intoxication, then directed students through a driving exercise, puzzle, and field sobriety test.

“As much as the activities are fun it's eye-opening to how much you can be impaired when you are drunk and how much it can affect your abilities. I would have thought walking the line would have been the easiest thing in the world, but it really impacts you,” said WCHS sophomore Dylan Calandra.

“Any sort of awareness that we can bring to the students of such an important topic is why I wanted to get this here so they can really understand the importance of drinking and driving,” said WCHS school resource officer Jessica Griffin who helped organize the event.
