The Windsor Central School District has once again been
named one of the Best Communities for Music Education by the NAMM Foundation.
The District also earned the distinction in 2016. The NAMM Foundation awarded
583 districts in the nation the distinction, placing Windsor in the top four
percent of districts nationwide in music education.
“I think our success has been twofold,” said Windsor Central High School teacher Joel Carle. “We’ve gotten the support from the administration and community in terms of how many teachers we have and how much face time we’re able to have with our students. Also, it’s about what our teachers are doing, how many students are taking courses and how many students go above and beyond. How many students are making elite groups like NYSMA, All-County and All-State?”

According to the NAMM Foundation, The Best Communities for
Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate
outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all
students. To qualify for the Best Communities designation, Windsor CSD answered
detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class
participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program, and
community music-making programs. Responses were verified with school officials
and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.
“I think it’s a great place for the District to be. We have the momentum to keep doing what we’re doing,” said Carle.
