Windsor CSD Summer Program Recap - July 23

The third week of the Windsor CSD 2026 summer program concluded on Thursday.
Knight Lights STEM students rubber band moto boats powered by potential energy stored in elastic band. They used the engineering design process and learned how engineers constantly make improvements.

“Engineers test, test, test, and improve, improve, improve,” said Windsor CSD elementary engineering teacher Eileen Mulcahy-LaChance.

5th- and 6th-grade students built simple machines like pulleys, wheels, and levers to perform a standard task, like splattering paint or moving a toy soccer ball into a goal. Some built Rube Goldberg machines, devices that perform simple jobs in an overcomplicated, chain-reaction fashion.

Middle school students in the Windsor Strong Academy held Coronation Day on Thursday. Students wore hand-made costumes to match the roles they have in their kingdoms, such as king, queen, and jester.  

Softball, baseball, and lacrosse sports camps concluded on Thursday.

Softball campers worked on infield and outfield defense and played whiffle ball.

Baseball players split into an older group and a younger group. The younger players worked on throwing mechanics and fielding ground balls. Older players practiced hitting mechanics by practicing hitting drills and situational hitting.

Girls lacrosse players worked on their skills in the draw circle and spent the second half of camp in the WCHS pool. Boys lacrosse players worked on faceoffs and spent the second half of camp in the WCHS pool.

Next week’s sports camps are golf, football, soccer, and volleyball.
