Broome County Sheriff's Office Active Shooter Training at WCHS on Friday
Public Notification: Active Shooter Training Exercise – July 17, 2026
The Broome County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with Windsor School, local police, fire, and EMS agencies, will be conducting a realistic full-scale active shooter response training exercise on Friday, July 17th, 2026, between 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM at Windsor High School.
This training is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance emergency preparedness and interagency coordination in the event of a school-based critical incident. While this is only a training exercise, it will include the use of simulated gunfire, roleplayers, emergency vehicles, and a large law enforcement and medical presence on and around school grounds.
What to Expect:
- Increased police, fire, and EMS activity near Windsor School during training hours
- Marked and unmarked emergency vehicles, including lights and sirens
- Volunteers and actors portraying victims and bystanders
- Simulated gunfire sounds using non-lethal training equipment inside the building
- Temporary traffic restrictions or detours on Route 79 and nearby intersections
- Signs and safety personnel will clearly mark the area as a training zone
- This is not a real emergency
- There is no danger to the public
- No students will be present — this is a closed training environment
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we conduct this important training.
