Broome County Sheriff's Office Active Shooter Training at WCHS on Friday

Posted Date: 07/15/26 (02:51 PM)

Public Notification: Active Shooter Training Exercise – July 17, 2026
Broome County Sherrif's Office logoThe Broome County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with Windsor School, local police, fire, and EMS agencies, will be conducting a realistic full-scale active shooter response training exercise on Friday, July 17th, 2026, between 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM at Windsor High School.

This training is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance emergency preparedness and interagency coordination in the event of a school-based critical incident. While this is only a training exercise, it will include the use of simulated gunfire, roleplayers, emergency vehicles, and a large law enforcement and medical presence on and around school grounds.

What to Expect:

  • Increased police, fire, and EMS activity near Windsor School during training hours
  • Marked and unmarked emergency vehicles, including lights and sirens
  • Volunteers and actors portraying victims and bystanders
  • Simulated gunfire sounds using non-lethal training equipment inside the building
  • Temporary traffic restrictions or detours on Route 79 and nearby intersections
  • Signs and safety personnel will clearly mark the area as a training zone
What This Is Not:
  • This is not a real emergency
  • There is no danger to the public
  • No students will be present — this is a closed training environment
We are committed to the safety and security of our schools and our community. Exercises like this allow our first responders to test their procedures and improve coordination so that if a real incident ever occurs, we are as prepared as possible.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we conduct this important training.
