Posted Date: 06/16/26 (11:28 AM)

Windsor Central High School Intro to Drone Piloting students Landon Brown and Landry Salt have passed the FAA Drone Test and earned their drone pilot certification.

Two young men in a classroom examine a drone, one holding a controller.“It’s just something I found interesting and seemed like it would be a fun class to take and it was,” said Brown, a sophomore. “It’s nice. I feel accomplished. I’m not sure yet. I’m looking forward to taking pictures where I work and have some fun with it.”

“It feels good. We’ve been working hard for it. Like what Landon said, I feel accomplished,” said Salt, a WCHS junior who plans on opening a photography business and using drones.

Salt and Brown are the fourth and fifth WCHS Intro to Drone Piloting students to earn their certification.

“The class has been a huge success. These guys worked hard and it’s awesome that they have it for life,” said teacher Eric Haberli. “The success of the class has grown. We’re getting more and more kids the certification and it’s something tangible they can get other than their diploma and it’s something practical they have that will stick with them the rest of their lives.”

Mr. Haberli hopes to increase the number of students who earn their certification each year. Students need to have a high enough grade in the class as well as pass the FAA test to earn their certification through the class.
