Superintendent Conference Day Provides Range of Experiences to Teachers

Posted Date: 10/10/25 (2:02 PM)

Windsor teachers had varied experiences during Friday’s Superintendent’s Conference Day to better help them provide supportive environments to students and make them future-ready.

The day began with suicide safety for teachers and school staff awareness training. Rachel Dowd, a Provider Services Coordinator for Family Enrichment Network, conducted the training.

She reviewed the characteristics of at-risk students, outlined educators’ limited but critical role, clarified building referral procedures, and identified school and community resources.

“They can be a protective factor for children. They can buffer suicidal risk and be a support for them,” said Dowd.
After the training, teachers took on the role of Windsor Central High School students by attending classes in the district’s career pathways. Teachers attended classes in manufacturing, Trades, agriculture, cybersecurity, and more.

“There’s an opportunity with the changes in state graduation requirements. Current 6th and 7th graders will no longer be required to pass Regents exams to graduate. This gives us an opportunity to make sure experiences in our classrooms are meaningful and relevant, while making students future-ready,” said Windsor CSD Assistant Superintendent for Instruction, Scott Beattie.
