Binghamton University’s Center for Civic Engagement honored the Windsor Central School District with its Community Partner of the Year award on Thursday.
“For more than ten years, Windsor has been one of Binghamton University’s most dedicated and thoughtful partners. Year after year, they have welcomed our students into their schools, not just as visitors, but as members of their community. Because of Windsor’s openness and support, university students have had invaluable opportunities to learn, grow, and contribute,” said Sara Hall, Binghamton University CCE senior assistant director.

140 Binghamton University students spent over 3,500 hours engaging in more than 6,500 youth interactions with Windsor students. Activities included university students coming to Windsor as classroom assistants, Windsor Central High School students visiting Binghamton University’s theater program, and Windsor third-grade students visiting their Binghamton University sorority pen pals each March.

"Windsor has been a true leader and partner in imagining how collaboration between the University and local schools can advance positive outcomes for students and families, while providing meaningful learning opportunities to Binghamton University students. Windsor's vision and commitment has served as a model for impactful campus-community partnerships,” said Alison Handy Twang, Director of the Center for Civic Engagement.

Binghamton University students have also organized toy drives, hygiene drives, and backpack drives for Windsor students.

“More than the programs and initiatives, what makes this partnership so special is the spirit of collaboration and care that Windsor brings. They are partners who listen, who share ideas, and who genuinely believe in building something meaningful together,” said Hall.
