Windsor CSD Seeks Volunteers to Consult on Electronic Device In Schools Policy

Posted Date: 7/16/25 (3:05 PM)

The Windsor Central School District is requesting volunteers to consult on a Board policy on students and personal electronic devices. This group will meet at the Windsor Central High School cafeteria on Wednesday, July 30, from 6pm to 8pm.
The State’s new Distraction-Free Schools law signed by Governor Hochul this year requires bell-to-bell smartphone restrictions in K-12 school districts statewide, starting this fall for the 2025-2026 school year. The law requires each school district:

  • To adopt a policy prohibiting the use of internet-enabled devices (ex., smartphones) by students during the school day
  • Provide method(s) for parents to contact their students during the school day
  • Provide method(s) for students to store their device
  • Consult local stakeholders in the development of the policy before its adoption
If you would like to participate in the stakeholder consultation group, please email Scott Beattie, Asst. Superintendent for Instruction at sbeatttie@windsor-csd.org, or call 607-655-8216 for more information.
Attached is a pdf invitation to the event with more information.
