Summer Program Rundown: July 19
Summer Program summary for July 19:

Windsor Strong:
Some students met with officials from Binghamton University’s School of Education while others took a tour of the school’s athletic facilities at the Events Center. Stops on the tour included the concourse, basketball court, weight room, athletic training room and soccer and lacrosse fields.

The trip to the athletic training room spurred the interest of Cody Lewis, who is entering the 9th grade. His goal is to play professional baseball but he knows he needs a fallback option. Athletic training could be that.

“It’s always something I had thought of. Only so many people make the major leagues. And you know the NFL stands for ‘Not For Long’ so it’s something that could keep me in athletics,” said Lewis.

Officials from The Agency, which is responsible for attracting business to Broome County, spoke to students at the Binghamton University Downtown Center. They spoke to the students about The Agency's mission to change the dialogue that happens about Broome County and to begin focusing on all of the positive things that people love about this area. They spoke about the importance of keeping young people here by including their voices in decisions that are made for the future.

Knight Lights:
The human body week continues at Knight Lights as part of the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) curriculum at the camp. Today students drew where different organs go in the body. They also started designing casts. Tomorrow students will actually make casts to put on student mentors.

Wrestling Camp:
Campers worked today from the top position with the bar arm series. Other work included reviewing the following moves: knee pull sweep single, John Smith low single, downblock go-behind and downblock double leg.

Tomorrow campers will add to the bar arm series and review the week’s work. They will also play polo in the pool and football on the matt. Campers have been playing different sports in addition to wrestling this week.

“At this age group it’s about having fun. They’re building fun and camaraderie,” said wrestling coach Jeff Nolan.

Basketball Camp:
Windsor Central High School alumnus and Davis College basketball coach Dan Rathmell gave a guest lecture at camp. He shared tips with the students to make them better on and off the court. You can read more about his visit here.

The two-week camp concludes July 20 with 5-on-5 tournament championship games for both the younger campers (entering grades 4-6) and older players (entering grades 7-9).
