Volleyball Camp Kicks Off Summer

Dozens of children kicked off their summer serving, setting and spiking at the Windsor 2017 Volleyball Camp. This year marks the eighth year of the camp, which runs from June 26-29.

“For the little kids we try to teach them how to move their feet, laugh at mistakes and learn in teams,” said Windsor Volleyball Coach Scott Symons. “For the older kids we’re really trying to teach them the skills to make the modified team or JV or varsity team. We’re trying to get them hooked on the sport.”

The camp is open to students entering fourth grade through ninth grade.

“I wanted to play volleyball,” said Lilly Devine, a first-time camp goer who wants to play on the modified team when she enters 7th grade in September. “I feel like I’ve gotten better passing and serving.”

Ciera Adams is already playing on the modified team. She is entering 8th grade in September and is enjoying her third Windsor Volleyball Camp.

“I never really played before (camp) but I get better in passing and serving,” said Adams.

Members of the varsity and junior varsity volleyball teams help run the camps. Many of those players were once attendees.

“We’ve had quite a few of our JV and varsity players come through this camp. It’s had a big impact on our program,” said Symons.

The camp is station-based, meaning multiple simultaneous drills keep kids constantly moving.

“We don’t want them standing around. We want them to have fun,” said Symons.

The Windsor Volleyball Camp ends on June 29th. However, for information on other Windsor CSD sports camps and programming you can go here. You can also see a video from the camp on the District's YouTube page here.
