State Sen. Akshar Reads to Students
State Senator Fred Akshar read to children at the Palmer and Bell Elementary Schools Thursday.

His first visit was to Palmer. He read The Love Monster to Sheri Abdullah's Kindergarten class. He also visited middle-school students at Palmer at the "Mix-it-up Lunch". This event encourages students who otherwise wouldn't socialize with each other to sit together at lunch.

Akshar finished his visit to the District at Bell Elementary School. He read Oh, the Places You'll Go to 4th- and 5th-grade students. During a Q&A session after the readings he explained what he did as a State Senator, highlighting how legislators make laws and spend money by helping develop the state budget.

Akshar told the students being a State Senator can be stressful because of the complexity of the decisions he needs to make. However, he says school visits help give him an idea of what schools need to be successful and help him make decisions in Albany.
