Palmer Elementary Honors 3rd & 4th Graders

A.F. Palmer Elementary continued to celebrate students who have made the school a better place as well as achieved academic success at its grades 3-5 Awards Ceremony.

The school handed out Citizenship Awards to 3rd and 4th graders, recognized members of student councils as well as those who earned Honor Roll and High Honor Roll distinction. A pair of students each from 3rd and 4th grade also received the Principal’s Award for their contributions making Palmer Elementary a better place.

“I think my friends have helped me. They always encourage me to be my best,” said 4th grader Hailey Smallacomb who won Perfect Attendance, High Honor Roll and Citizenship Awards.

The multiple awards are indicative of the strong year Smallacomb has had.

“I think my year has been pretty good. I’ve been able to make new friends, keep old ones and I’ve had amazing teachers,” said Smallacomb.

One special moment during the ceremony was when U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Gary Deyo presented the 3rd Grade Citizenship Award to his son James. Deyo is based at Camp Smith in Portland Manor, NY and is usually only in the area on weekends. He was able to get special leave for the ceremony.

“It was awesome,” said Sgt. Deyo of presenting his son’s award.

5th graders will also receive their awards at their Moving Up ceremony on June 12th.
