Five Windsor Central High School students are among the more than 200 in New York and Pennsylvania the Arnot Art Museum has honored it the 2019 Scholastic Art Awards.
230 of the over 900 entrants received awards, however all five Windsor students who submitted work earned honors from the competition. Kristin Ciurzynski won Honorable Mention for Art Portfolio, Ashley Goodwin won Honorable Mention for Photography, and Haylie Martin and Autumn Webb each won Honorable Mention for Digital Art.
Kayla Scales won a pair of awards: Honorable Mention and Silver Key for Design for a pair of magazine covers she submitted to the contest.
“I took the photos, created the titles and made up the layout,” said Scales. “They were the projects I thought were the best of what I’ve done. I was proud, but I wasn’t expecting this.”
Scales is aiming to attend SUNY Fredonia, where she would like to major in Photography. Her goal is to become a commercial photographer.
Each awardee is invited to the museum’s Gala Awards Presentation on Sunday, 27 January 2019 at noon at the Clemens Center in Elmira, New York. The Scholastic Art Awards 2019 exhibition will be unveiled at that time, and will be on view throughout the month of February.
