Windsor Named a Best Community for Music Education
For the second straight year and third time in four years, The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) foundation has named the Windsor Central School District one of the Best Communities for Music Education in the nation.

“It is with great pleasure that the Music Department announces that the Windsor School District has been awarded for 2019 the NAAM Award. This is the 3rd year our district has been distinguished as one of the Best Communities for Music Education. The NAAM Foundation recognizes music programs and activities that are designed to promote music making for people of all ages and to help create a more musical world,” said Windsor music teacher Christine Krieger.

Districts earn the designation by demonstrating outstanding efforts in order to provide music access and education to all of its students.
In order to qualify for the Best Communities designation, the District’s music department needed to answer detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program, and community music-making programs.

“The Music Department is grateful for all the support and encouragement from our community which enables the Windsor Central School District to be a leader in Music Education,” said Krieger.

According to NAMM, Research into music education continues to demonstrate educational/cognitive and social skill benefits for children who make music. After two years of music education, research found that participants showed more substantial improvements in how the brain processes speech and reading scores that their less-involved peers and that students who are involved in music are not only more likely to graduate high school, but also to attend college as well.
