Masking Policy Update
Dear Parents and Staff,

Over the past day, there have been a number of developments affecting masking policy in New York state, including for schools.

On Monday, a New York Supreme Court judge struck down the state’s mask mandate. However, New York State’s Education Department (NYSED), which oversees public schools, kept masking rules in place in schools, anticipating an automatic stay in the judge’s ruling.

While the stay was not automatic, this evening a state Appellate court judge granted the motion to stay, placing the statewide mask mandate back into effect.

The continuing twists and turns of the rules and regulations surrounding contact tracing, testing, masking, and other Covid-19 related issues have proven difficult to follow, but we are trying to do our best to navigate. As for what is next, there will be another hearing in court regarding this issue on Friday, January 28th.

I have heard from many parents today on both sides of the masking issue.  We understand parental concerns over masking, and also about maintaining a safe and healthy environment.  Clearly, not everyone will be satisfied with any particular decision, but I ask that you please bear with us as we address these legal changes as they come up. We continue to plan to follow the rules and regulations to the best of our ability.
