The Grinch may have stolen Christmas but teachers at Palmer Elementary School gave the gift of reading to students at this year's Curriculum Day.
Groups of students rotated between four stations. At each station a teacher read a holiday classic such as Frosty the Snowman, Snowflake Bentley and Pete the Cat Saves Christmas.
Mrs. Lang entertained a group of 3rd, 4th and 5th graders with a lively reading of The Grinch Who Stole Christmas.
"We just want to make sure they're enjoying a great day and that they're also reading. They've seen the movies but they should read the books as well. There's so much to these stories," said Lang.
As she was finishing the book she asked her students if Christmas was all about presents. The resounding answer? No.
"It's about having fun with family and friends," said 4th grader Makayla Simonds.
"It's about being with family and friends," said 4th grader Michael Pryce-Ellis.
After hearing their teacher read the book, students took part in an activity related to the story. The students with Mrs. Lang made Grinches out of paper and ate popcorn.
"It's fun going around to different activities," said 4th grader Samantha Daly.
"It's fun having awesome teachers who let us do it," said 4th grader Thomas Llaguno.
"These are the days that get kids to love school. These are the days that keep them understanding that it's about the family we are here at the school," said Lang.
