Myleanna Siedlecky Honored as Akshar All-Star
With an everlasting smile in the face of adversity, C.R. Weeks 2nd grader Myleanna Siedlecky has been honored as Windsor’s Akshar All-Star by State Senator Fred Akshar.
Mylee was involved in an accident in April that resulted in a below the knee amputation of her left leg. However, she has maintained a positive attitude that has inspired others and served her well in her recovery.
“Sometimes life throws us curveballs. We can’t always control what happens to us but we can control what we do after that,” said Sen. Akshar. “This District, our state and our world would be a better place with more Myleannas.”
Myleanna received a certificate and t-shirt from Sen. Akshar. The Senator also shared lunch with Myleanna before escorting her back to class. During lunch Myleanna talked about how important it has been to maintain a positive attitude.
“It feels good,” said Myleanna.
Sen. Akshar will honor one student per district to be an Akshar All-Star. 26 students in all will receive the distinction. The program looks to highlight students who show great leadership, compassion, school spirit or improvement amongst their peers.
The ceremony Monday came after a big weekend for Myleanna. On Saturday she dropped a ceremonial puck at the Binghamton Devils game. On Sunday the non-profit Room to Heal unveiled Myleanna’s new ocean-themed room at her home. Room to Heal provides healing spaces for children.
In recommending Myleanna as an Akshar All-Star, C.R. Weeks Principal Kristen Beriman highlighted how Myleanna is independent at school, participates in gymnastics outside of school and gives 100 percent in everything she does.
“Myleanna has taught everyone around her that a single incident does not define who you are or limit the possibilities of who you will become,” said Beriman.
