Isacc Sierra Wins Richard J. Stack Memorial Scholarship
Windsor Central High School Senior Isacc Sierra has won the Richard J. Stack Memorial Scholarship. The award grants Sierra at least $2,000 for his freshman year at college.

“It’s amazing, It’s insane. I submitted my application thinking, ‘Maybe, maybe not,’ but I felt good about what I wrote," said Sierra.
Kim Stack-Myers, the daughter of Richard Stack, who founded Dick’s Sporting Goods, presented Sierra with his award Wednesday at WCHS.

“I’ve been doing this for 20 years. I read each essay, and I knew reading Isacc’s that everything was authentic about it,” said Stack-Myers.

Applicants needed to read a synopsis of Richard Stack’s life story and write an essay that covered the following themes: the applicant’s personal definition of success, plans to succeed, interests and goals in life, personal challenges the applicant has faced or will face, and how he/she will meet or have met those challenges.

“I wrote about (Stack-Myers’) father and how his story inspired me. I read it and was thinking, ‘Wow, this guy came from a hard rock and risked it all for his business. And, he succeeded.' To think it started here (in Binghamton) is incredible,” said Sierra.

Sierra will study English Education at the University at Buffalo.

“I really needed this, so I’m really happy,” said Sierra.
