WCHS a Scholar-Athlete School of Excellence
The New York State Public High School Athletic Association, Inc. (NYSPHSAA) has named Windsor Central High School a 2019-20 Scholar-Athlete School of Excellence Award winner. WCHS is one of 140 schools in the state to earn the 2019-20 School of Excellence Award.

“I couldn’t be prouder of our student-athletes. We encourage all of our students to pursue their interests beyond the classroom, whether on the playing field, in the arts, or in the community. It is to their credit that our student-athletes were able to achieve academic excellence while putting in the hard work necessary to be a high school athlete,” said Dr. Jason Andrews, Windsor Central School District Superintendent.

To earn the School of Excellence Award, 75% of a school’s varsity teams must qualify and receive the Scholar-Athlete team award. Those teams have earned a 90-or-above GPA. At WCHS, 17 of the 19 programs, or over 89%, from the fall and winter season achieved this status.

“Credit goes to our High School administrators and teachers for their multiple layers of academic support to help our student-athletes achieve this award. In addition, our coaching staff has high expectations of our student-athletes in the classroom, and our student-athletes balanced their priorities to ensure that being a student came first,” said WCHS Director of Athletics and Transportation Chris Durdon.

For the 2019-20 school year the School of Distinction and School of Excellence winners were based on fall 2019 and winter 2020 Scholar-Athlete submissions because the spring 2020 program was cancelled.
