Windsor Central Middle School students enjoyed May Madness on Friday. They competed in basketball bowling, basketball sandwiches, and rip, roll, and recycle, in which one competitor threw balls of paper into a basketball hoop on the head of their partner.
The winners took home special trophies, customized for each event by students in Mr. Dewey’s engineering enrichment class.
“We laser-engraved lines into the wood and the writing on the side. We 3D printed the balls, laser cut the pins and water bottle pin,” said 8th grader Lucas Sansom, who helped create the bowling trophies.
“We decided we’d do something with a head because it’s called head hoops. We 3D printed the head, basketball, and net,” said 8th grader Jenna Bump.
Ayden Schmitt and George Hiras created the basketball sandwich trophy.
“We put a basketball between two buns. One is 3D printed with a wooden dowel, so it stays. Another spins and is golden for the champion,” said Hiras.
Each event featured a grade-level champion and overall school champion.
