Nowacki Elected NYSSBA Area 4 Director
Windsor Central School District Board of Education President Peter Nowacki has won election as the Area 4 Director for the New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA).
As Area 4 Director, he will represent school boards in Broome, Cayuga, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Onondaga, Schuyler, Tioga, Tompkins counties, the Cazenovia Central School District and the DeRuyter Central School District of Madison County and the South Seneca Central School District of Seneca County.

“I am incredibly honored to receive this appointment. This election is significant for our district because it shows that the incredible work our team is doing. It provides recognition of our hard work by all 66 districts that make up the entire central part of the state. This position will certainly be one of the greatest honors of my life. It’s made all that much better because my election to the position is predicated on the incredible work everyone in our community is doing in the field of education,” said Nowacki.

Nowacki has been a member of the Windsor Central School District Board of Education since 2001 and is currently entering his fourteenth year as president of that board. He has also served on the Broome-Tioga BOCES Board of Trustees since 2006. He sees schools facing a challenge to a higher degree today than ever.

“The current political issues that are facing our nation are the most intense I’ve ever experienced. The political division that our nation is currently going through is putting schools, and the boards that manage them, at the tip of the spear, as it relates to political discussion. Our schools are being tested as they have rarely been before throughout the history of our nation,” said Nowacki. “This position will give me a unique opportunity to help districts maneuver their way through the choppy political waters ahead. If we are able to do things right, as a society, we will be stronger for it.”

In this new position, Nowacki will work with the NYS Education Department on classroom reforms.

“We are in a period where their leaders have sent the clear message that they are looking for input from students, parents, staff, and administrators as they never have before. This is an incredibly exciting time to be a part of defining what education for our students looks like moving forward,” said Nowacki.

Nowacki plans to meet with each of the 66 districts he now represents, sharing the successful programs from Windsor and hearing about others in the region.

“On January 1st, 2024, Windsor’s Superintendent will be serving as the President of the NYS Council of School Superintendents, Our BOCES Board President will be the President of the NYS School Board’s Association, and I will be serving as the Area 4 Director for the NYS School Board’s Association. This trifecta means that our district and region are serving in statewide leadership roles like we never have before. I am tremendously proud to be a part of that team,” said Nowacki.
