Windsor Summer Camp summary July 24:
Windsor Strong Academy:
Student groups continue to study what makes a community strong. The safety group heard from U.S. Army Warrant Officer Morgan Gorman who works at the Binghamton Armory but has served overseas deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan. You can read more about his talk with students here.
Knight Lights:
Earth week begins at Knight Lights. Students learned mapping skills to help prepare them for their geocaching expeditions Wednesday and Thursday at Cole Park. Other students also used unconventional instruments such as books, cups and utensils to make music.
Athletic camps:
Week-long football and field hockey camps began today. The camps are for students entering 4th through 9th grades. It is the first year of athletic camps for those sports for students that age.
Windsor alumnus and Wagner Football coach Jason Houghtaling returned to Windsor to speak to the players in the football camp. He stressed that they should be good students and put family first. He also talked about how Windsor is a great place for both academics and athletics. He also said that as a Division 1 coach he looks for three-sport athletes.
Players also went through a mini combine, including a 40-yard dash, agility drills and standing long-jump. Players will receive their results tomorrow. They also went through the basics of getting into a stance and played 7-on-7 games.
