Weeks Elementary Performs Spring Concerts

From using rulers and soda cans as percussion instruments to singing songs featured in Disney movies the morning performance of the C.R Weeks Elementary Spring Concert featured a wide range of performances.

The 4th Grade Band played Lightly Row, the Norwegian folk song Song of the Fjords and Big Rock Candy Mountain. The 5th Grade Band performed Erie Canal Capers, Popcorn Prelude and Shortnin' Bread.

The 5th Grade Percussion Ensemble used the aforementioned household and school items to perform Sonata for Seven Rulers. The 4th and 5th Grade Chorus sang The Crawdad Song, How Far I'll Go from the Disney movie Moana and For Good.

"Today went great," said music teacher Lindsey Smeenk. "The kids communicated very well. They sang out nicely. I think it went great."

To prepare for the performance the students practiced from 2:15-3:00 during one day of the six-day schedule cycle, and gave up recess another day as well since March.

"It's just so fun to do because we get a chance to sing in front of the whole school. We always get good reaction from the crowd," said 5th Grade Chorus and Band member Anna Finn.

"We've been practicing hard for this," said 5th Grade Chorus member Gavin Tambeau. "I really like performing in front of people. I like the pleased look on their face when we finish."

The school scheduled a pair of Spring Concert performances, both on June 1st: the morning performance at 9:30 and evening performance at 6:30.
