Career Expo at Binghamton University

Windsor Central High School’s sophomore class was among the 1,500 local students who went to Binghamton University Thursday for the Broome-Tioga BOCES Career Expo.

“Any opportunity we have to get them on a college campus, have them meet students from other districts, and explore careers is good,” said Ami Wiswell, Windsor Central High School guidance counselor.

Students chose two career fields from about 40 represented at the Career Expo.

“It was very helpful to find out what goes on in a nursing career instead of researching websites that don’t give you much information,” said sophomore Rosemary Airwyke.

Airwyke explored health care and music careers at the expo, but wants to be a pediatric nurse.

“I’ve narrowed (my career focus) quite a bit. In middle school, I thought about being a chef. But, during a BOCES trip last month, I realized that I wanted to go into health care.”

The sophomore class takes this trip to Binghamton University. Then, as juniors and seniors, they will sit one-on-one or in a small group with someone who is in a career of interest during WCHS’ Day With Professionals.

“This is broad and gives them some good exposure. But, as juniors they get to narrow what they are really interested in and sit with someone in a more intimate setting,” said Wiswell.

Juniors at Windsor Central High School will have a Day With Professionals on March 18.
