Tractor Newest Acquisition for Ag Program

The Windsor Central School District is proud to announce its latest addition to the District’s agricultural program – a Farmall CASE tractor.

The cost of the tractor and assorted attachments was $60,000. The District purchased the tractor with funds from a $330,000 federal Student Support and Academic Enrichment (SSAE) grant. This purchase directly aligns with the District goal of preparing all students to be college- and career-ready upon graduation from high school.

“We’re excited to continue to expand our agriculture pathway for our students. This tractor will make the agriculture experience more authentic, helping students succeed in our program, and allowing them to eventually succeed on farms throughout our area and New York state,” said Dr. Jason Andrews, Superintendent of the Windsor CSD.

Having up-to-date, effective farming equipment will provide our agricultural pathway students with hands-on experiences that are currently not possible.

“We want to provide students the opportunity to learn on-the-farm skills, such as operating a tractor, and give them a greater understanding of agricultural mechanics,” said Alexis Davis, agriculture teacher at WCHS.

Over the summer, the state named the Windsor CSD was one of six districts to be a Farm-to-School grant recipient. The goal of this grant is to exceed the current percentage, approximately 30%, of locally-sourced produce in our school cafeterias.  The tractor acquisition will help the District utilize the land lab to reach its heightened goal by growing its own food.

The produce harvested from the land lab will be split between District cafeterias, the Windsor Human Development food bank, and Knight Pack club, which supports students facing food insecurity.
