Helping the Hungry

The Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways has honored Windsor Central Middle School 6th graders Chloe Toler, Avarie Blewett, Jocelyn Brown, and Aubriana Tyler for their work to help feed those facing food insecurity in the community.

The quartet earned the Girl Scout Bronze Award after their troop held a pair of food Drives in May at St. Mary’s Church in Kirkwood to benefit the church’s food pantry and Knight Pack, which provides foods for Windsor students in need.

“I knew it would help people in need and It felt good to help people,” said Brown.

The girls also went to the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse (CHOW) headquarters in Binghamton to help organize food.

“There are things I don’t like. I don’t like people who don’t take care of animals, or abuse animals. And I don’t like how people have to go hungry on the street,” said Toler.

Toler and Brown, who are both still in Girl Scouts, are organizing another event at St. Mary’s to help the hungry in December.
