Clearing a Path

For the 13th time, students and staff took part in a ramp build to make a home more accessible for someone with mobility issues. For the first time, the Windsor Varsity Club took the lead on the build.

“For Varsity Club, I want to do more community service events. We’ll help pack food baskets this Thanksgiving and Christmas, and we’ll do another ramp build in the spring,” said Karen Webb, Varsity Club advisor.

The group built a ramp from the deck of a home in Binghamton to the curb in front of the house. The new structure will help an elderly couple, both of whom have mobility issues.

“It was very enjoyable. It felt good to be out with fellow students and friends doing something good,” said sophomore Frank Slavitsky.
The residents of the home seemed pleased with the work.

“He was very grateful. He said we did a good job, and I think that meant a lot to the kids,” said Webb.

“He seemed extremely happy,” said Slavitsky. “It was a great feeling seeing him come home and walk up with no challenge whatsoever.”
