Extra! Extra!

By reporting news, some Bell Elementary students are making history, producing the school’s first-ever newspaper, the Crusader Chronical.

“The paper gives a heads-up to students about what’s going on,” said student reporter Riley Williams.

The first issue has news articles on changes at Bell Elementary and the school’s participation in the recent Fill the Bus food drive. It also has feature stories on custodian Frank Bowman and new physical education teacher Mike Karlson. You can read the entire edition here

“The kids love it. They were literally running up and down the halls when they delivered the newspaper last week,” said Christina Radicchi, who, along with teacher Karri Kaminsky, serves as the paper’s editor.

Kayla Youngs, Williams, Tuesday Sonhouse, Isabella Birtch, Aubrey McHugh, Bella Smart, Evan Maxian, and Spencer Luce are the student reporters.

“When I was young, I wrote a lot of books because my grandpa had a printer and I found an app for pictures, and I thought of a few things to write. When I heard there was a journalism club, it was easy to join because I wrote other books,” said Smart.

“I like to write paragraphs and write the (school’s) first-ever newspaper,” said Williams.

“I thought it was cool because it really was a newspaper. It was fun to deliver to all of the classes,” said Youngs.

There will be three more issues this school year. The next will feature Diary of a Bell Kid, Holiday Celebrations, and more.
