7th Grade Class Preps Bandera Christmas Dinner

120 Windsor 7th graders helped prepare over 1,000 meals Friday for the Bandera Family Christmas Dinner. It’s the 13th year the entire 7th-grade class has helped organizers with the event. And, for the thousands of meals prepared, students involved, and people served over the years, there is one overriding lesson.

“I think it speaks to a tradition and legacy at Windsor that we want to teach our students to care about the community,” said teacher Bridget Wilson.

In assembly-line fashion, students scooped food, sealed containers, and packed meals that are destined for those in need on Christmas Day.

“It’s great that we’re able to help the community. Even if you’re really busy during the Holiday season, you can help,” said 7th grader Riley Conrow.

“They’re actually very excited, especially when they realize this is something that goes beyond their school, and that their work is needed to make this possible,” said Mrs. Wilson.

That work is much appreciated.

“It’s amazing,” said Bill Bandera, who runs the event. “Every time they come, I tell them that they’re doing in two hours what it would take our normal number of volunteers two-and-a-half days to do.”

“It’s great how much we’re getting done,” said Conrow.

Overall, the Bandera Family Christmas Dinner will serve over 4,000 meals at locations in Binghamton, Endicott, and Norwich, as well as deliveries in five counties.
