Just before the end of the school year, one Windsor teacher
got some help in continuing her education.
The New York State Retired Teachers Association awarded
Windsor Central High School agriculture teacher Alexis Halstead a $500 grant as
she will study to become a Work-Based Learning Coordinator.
Halstead will take one course per semester next school year
on-line through the University at Buffalo. Work-based learning is the name used
to identify activities which collaboratively engage employers and schools in
providing structured learning experiences for students. These experiences focus
on assisting students develop broad, transferable skills for postsecondary
education and the workplace.
This will help Halstead better structure Windsor’s agriculture program so it can better provide Career Technical Education (CTE) credit.
“This certification will help me place students in career settings through internships, and should help students get credit for those work experiences,” said Halstead.
