Summer Program Recap - July 20

Are you a good active listener?

Students in the Windsor Strong Academy learned more about this life skill on Tuesday, exploring how both verbal and non-verbal communication, such as body language, can make others feel.
Counselor Andrea White led a discussion by asking the students the following questions: why is listening to others powerful for ourselves personally? Why is being listened to powerful for us personally? Why is listening to others difficult sometimes? What are some things we can do to make others feel like we are listening to them?

“The power of your ability to listen to someone else is a big deal. Sometimes we feel dismissed,” said counselor Andrea White, who led the discussion. “(Active listening) is a good skill to have at work or your personal life. It’s a life skill that helps you.”

The elementary camps continued with arts and crafts, and free play. Athletic camps continued as well at Windsor Central High School.
Football players took part in tackling drills, punt, pass, and kick activities, and seven-on-seven game situations.

Soccer players rotated between five skills stations on Tuesday: playing long balls in the air, throw-ins, corner kicks, penalty kicks, and kicking on a SKLZ Goalshot, a device that forces players to aim for the four corners of the net.

Volleyball campers reviewed the game’s fundamentals, practiced movement on defense, and worked on attacking. Tomorrow’s activities will include a toughness drill.

“The kids will like it,” said volleyball coach Scott Symons.

Golf campers continued to develop putting skills and worked on chipping and short-game play. They finished Tuesday’s session with a long-ball driving session.
Students in the 12:1:3 special education program are also taking part in a three-week summer camp in Windsor, combining academic and fun activities. On Tuesday, students helped make Tie-Dye t-shirts.
