Summer Program Recap - July 22

Windsor Strong Academy students’ exploration of their community included some of the village’s hidden history on Thursday.
A group toured a historic railroad car at the Old Windsor Train Station on Bridge Street. When it was in service, the Delaware and Hudson car ran to New England and Canada. The Village of Windsor purchased the station in 2013 to renovate it into a local history museum, complete with railroad memorabilia and local history displays.

Elementary campers continued to enjoy free play, arts and crafts, and team games. Students at Palmer Elementary took part in a “Mindfulness with Miss Ann” session, as Ann Szymaniak, the owner of The Dance Connection, engaged in breathing and movement exercises with the campers.

At Windsor Central High School, volleyball camp finished with 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 tournaments, as well as awards for notable players this week.

“We saw improvements in all of the kids all week,” said Volleyball coach Scott Symons.

Football camp finished with its traditional Punt, Pass, and Kick contest. The following campers won: 5th grade - Donovan Roe, 6th grade - Graham Klumpp, 7th grade - Patrick Finn, 8th grade - Luke Beattie, and 9th grade - Ashton Werner.

Soccer campers held their World Cup-style tournament to finish off the week. A varsity soccer player led each “national team” of campers in the tournament. Team Sweden, led by Addison Smith, won the Windsor Black Knight Super Cup. Coach Steve Miller praised his varsity players earlier this week for their work in involving each camper into games and drills.

"This week featured an absolutely amazing group of athletes from grades 4th through 8th. The future looks bright for the Windsor Black Knights soccer program. I truly look forward to the day that these athletes join me at the varsity level. I would like to thank all of the camp athletes, varsity boys volunteers, coaching staff, and parents for all of their hard work," said Miller.
Golf camp finished Thursday with a captain-and-crew tournament Thursday, but not before players worked on their short game.

“The players competed in a putting championship, which produced a high level of play,” said golf coach Peter Fardon.

Students in the 12:1:3 special education program are continuing their three-week summer camp. Today’s activities included lawn games, including a round of Duck, Duck, Goose.
