Canstruction Complete

You can sum up the job WCHS students did during Sunday’s Canstruction engineering challenge in one word – efficient.

“We were cutting it close,” said student Adam Peret. “Our design was just perfect to where we had enough cans and weren’t wasteful.”
WCHS students built a replica of an antique model 430 John Deere tractor entirely from canned foods.

“It went really well. We learned early that communication was key. We had to talk and help each other out,” said student Sydney Angelo.

The engineering competition challenged teams to compete to design and build giant structures made entirely from canned foods, which are then donated to their area’s food banks. Windsor was one of many districts who competed at their own locations on Sunday.

“It was a lot of fun. It took a little longer than expected, but it went great,” said Peret.

Elementary students built a replica of an old milk can, then took direction from the high school students to help with the tractor build.

“They were definitely fun to work with,” said Angelo.

The food used in the design, as well as additional collections in the district this week, will be donated to the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse (CHOW).
