Palmer Students Go for PARP Gold

Palmer Elementary’s PARP (Pick a Reading Partner) period finished with an Olympic-style closing ceremony Friday. Palmer teachers encouraged students to find a parent, sibling, pet, and read at home daily. Palmer’s PARP ran from March 4th - April 8th.

“Reading together at home can strengthen reading and communication skills and encourage the bond between home and school to encourage the love of reading,” said Palmer Elementary principal Whitney Freije.
The highlight of Friday’s ceremony was a virtual interview students had with former Olympic pentathlete Tom Lough.

Teachers challenged their classes to earn the most gold medals by reading at home. Together students earned over 260 gold medals. Teachers awarded gold medals to all students to wear for the reading they completed during PARP. Mrs. Whiting's 3rd Grade class won the most, earning 30 gold reading medals and winning an ice cream party.
