The Windsor Central School District has once again been named one of the Best Communities for Music Education by the NAMM Foundation, a distinction it has now earned five of the past six years.
According to the NAMM Foundation, The Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.
“The pandemic was very hard on our students, particularly students who use the performing arts as an outlet. I am very proud to be a part of a district that supports the arts in the ways that it does,” said elementary music teacher Lindsey Smeenk. “Things looked a lot different than normal, but our students still had many opportunities available for them that allowed them to keep music an important part of their lives. Receiving the NAMM award so many years in a row shows that our community is very supportive of our students and the arts.”
" We are all very proud of our young musicians and their continued pursuit of excellence in music. Music is one of the few aspects of daily life that invites all people of diverse and rich backgrounds to engage in, whether it is active participation in creating music or the simple enjoyment of listening to music. Go Black Knights," said middle school music teacher Christine Krieger.

To qualify for the Best Communities designation, the Windsor CSD music department answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program, and community music-making programs. Responses were verified with school officials and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.
