Taylor Earns "Akshar All-Star" Honors

On Wednesday, Domanick Taylor, a Windsor eighth-grader enrolled in the Broome-Tioga BOCES Crossroads Program at West Learning Center, earned distinction as an “Akshar All Star”. State Senator Fred Akshar honored Dominick on a Zoom call with teachers, counselors, and school officials from BOCES and Windsor, as well as his mother, Nikki Lewis.

Domanick is currently a student in the Crossroads 8:1:1 program at WLC. Through virtual learning, shutdowns and stress brought on by the pandemic, Domanick worked his way up from the Reclaim 6:1:1 program by improving academically, socially and emotionally. His ultimate goal is to return to Windsor, his home district.

A description of why Domanick was nominated for this honor reads as follows:

"Domanick is very intelligent and keeps his classmates on their toes. He really enjoys world history, especially World War I and World War II. He is a friend to many and is very caring. He demonstrates his care for others by his genuine interactions and by his friendly greetings. He also cares a lot about his family."

In his free time, Domanick enjoys watching documentaries, playing video games and practicing karate.

Each month, Senator Akshar recognizes local students selected by their school districts in the 52nd Senate District who have shown great leadership, compassion, school spirit or improvement amongst their peers. Each student recognized as an “Akshar All-Star” receives a t-shirt and a framed certificate. This is the fourth year the senator has held this recognition program.
