More Musical Accolades for Senior Pair

Two Windsor Central High School seniors continue to garner musical accolades as Allison Romain earned a spot in the All-Eastern Treble Choir, and Alex DiGennaro gained a seat in the All-Eastern Band. These ensembles are made up of the best high school musicians in 13 states.

“I was really excited. My whole goal when I started NYSSMA was to get All-Eastern (recognition). When I was in the Binghamton Youth Orchestra, they talked about these amazing flute players who were All-Eastern,” said DiGennaro.

“I was really surprised. I wasn’t expecting it whatsoever,” said Romain. “I made it into Area All-State and All-State, but I figured that’s where it would end.”
The All-Eastern honors come on the heels of the New York State School Music Association naming both All-State selections earlier this school year. Romain earned a spot as a vocalist while DiGennaro and nabbed a selection in the All-State orchestra with her French Horn.

As part of their participation in the All-Eastern Band, both are recording performances that will be edited into a virtual All-Eastern Band concert.

"Alexandra and Allison are both top notch musicians and great people.  Their success is a testament to their talent, work ethic, and passion for music,” said WCHS music teacher Joel Carle.

“This is a testament to Allison’s hard work. She doesn’t overlook any detail in her preparation. She deserves this,” said WCHS chorus teacher Robert Morano.

DiGennaro has been a member of the WCHS Band, WCHS Jazz Band, Precollege Symphony at Juilliard, Precollege Chamber at Juilliard, Binghamton Youth Symphony Orchestra, and the Smyrna Citizens Band. She travels most Saturdays to New York City to study at Julliard.

She has also been selected for the 2020 Honor Band of America and the 2020 High School Honors Performance Series at Musikverein, the 2018 High School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall, the 2018 High School Honors Performance Series at Sydney Opera House, and the 2017 and 2016 Middle School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall.

Now, she is focusing on her college choice. She has auditioned for a number of schools, including the New England Conservatory. She expects to hear back in late March or early April.

Romain has auditioned for the music departments at SUNY Potsdam and SUNY Fredonia. She hopes to study Music Education. She will find out in a matter of weeks if she is accepted.

The All-Eastern honors for Romain and DiGennaro have combined with WCHS senior Max Baxter’s selection to the All-National Modern Band to give the school’s music department an impressive set of accomplishments this year.

“We have three pillars of our music program: band, chorus, and modern band. To have national representation for all three of these pillars is amazing,” said Mr. Carle.
