Platner Wins Girl Scout Bronze Award

Windsor Central Middle School and the Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways have honored WCMS 6th grader Ava Platner for her and her troop’s work to benefit Meals on Wheels recipients.

Platner and her troop, Troop 30315 in Chenango Bridge, made personalized placemats for Meals on Wheels recipients. The placemats were stenciled with “Making today Amazing” on them. Each scout decorated and tied a ribbon around them for easy disbursement.
“We got plain placemats. Then, we colored them and personalized them,” said Ava, who has been a Girl Scout for about five years.

Ava earned the Girl Scout Bronze Award. This award is the highest honor a Girl Scout Junior can earn spending a minimum of 20 hours on a sustainable project that will make an impact on their community for years to come.

“This will have a long-lasting impact on the community for the people who may have to eat alone, but they  know there is someone out there thinking about them,” said Abigal German of Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways, Inc.

Platner’s troop has participated in a similar placemat project for local nursing homes during Thanksgiving, as well as collecting can tabs to help children undergoing cancer treatment, and donating to the Broome County Humane Society.
