Windsor Pair Places at Wrestling State Chamionships

The Windsor wrestling team placed a pair of athletes on the podium at the New York State Wrestling Championships.

Junior Mason McCombs finished 4th in the 160-pound weight class. Senior Garrett Bidwell finished 6th in the 215-pound weight class. For both athletes, their performances were repeats of their results last year.
“I was pretty happy placing again. It was the same as last year. I would have liked to have done a little better than last year, but I was happy to get on the podium again,” said Bidwell.

“I felt my performance overall was good. It felt good to place again, but I felt like I could have done better,” said McCombs.

McCombs plans to wrestle at 170 pounds as a senior next season, and best his performance from this season.

“I’m going to keep working hard in the room, put in more time in the offseason, and just work harder,” said McCombs.

Bidwell is going to join the Marines and will attend Basic Training at Parris Island in July.

“Wrestling is definitely something I’m glad I did. It’s something you enjoy when you’re doing it and a good way to spend your time,” said Bidwell.

“I’m proud of both of them. It’s difficult year in and year out to get to States, never mind make it to a podium. For them to do that for the second year in a row is impressive,” said Windsor wrestling coach Jeff Nolan.
