Pop Tab Drive

Mr. Dewey’s middle school advisory is holding its annual pop top drive to benefit the Ronald McDonald House.

Students in his advisory spend each morning going to all of the other classrooms in the school to collect pop tabs. The goal is to raise 100 pounds of pop tabs to donate.
“We raised 170 pounds last year. Our goal this year is 100 but we’d love to top last year. We’ve grown every year and we’ll see how we do this year,” said Mr. Dewey.

The drive is personal to Mr. Dewey, who stayed at a Ronald McDonald house in Albany when his five-month-old son had heart surgery.

“If anyone has ever been in that situation to know that the Ronald McDonald house is there, they know how valuable their services are,” said Mr. Dewey.

“It’s good helping other people,” said 7th grader Brooke Quick. “Every class we’ve gone to has had some.”

“It’s fun. I do the 8th grade classrooms and I like going around, saying hi to all the teachers and grabbing the pop tops,” said 7th grader Allanah Batzel. “We get pop tabs from most every classroom every morning.”

The drive ends on December 22nd. If you have tabs to donate, you can send them with your middle school student. If you have a student in another school in the district, that child can take them to the main office of their school and someone from the middle school will collect them.

“This is something simple that everyone can do a little bit to make a difference in someone’s life,” said Mr. Dewey.

The advisory that donates the most pop tabs will win a food-related party yet to be determined.
